Online Safety

February 22nd, 2018 by Mr. Carty

On Monday, we had Graham Mulhern from BeSecureOnline in to talk to our 5th & 6th classes about keeping themselves safe online. It is very important that parents talk to their children about online safety and the dangers of the internet. We strongly recommend that all parents should monitor their children’s internet usage and their “friends” online. We have attached a link which you can read through and help with any issues at home.

Talbot Celebrates Diversity

June 22nd, 2017 by Ms Wynne

We are all different–look around, not one person in the whole world is the same as you. We are all different and we are all equal. In Talbot we celebrate that each of us is unique. And we very much want to recognise this diversity that makes our school the wonderful place that it is.

At assembly today Mr Gilmartin’s class and Mr Stuart talked about the many languages spoken as a first language by Talbot’s children or parents. The total languages here used to be 21–now it’s a record 29!

Mr Gilmartin’s class designed and made beautiful posters of the word WELCOME written in the 29 different languages of our school community. They will go up at the school entrance–so that everyone feels welcome in our school.

The languages of our school are: Algerian, Arabic, Bengali/Bangla, Bosnian, Chinese, Creole (Mauritius Creole), Edo, English, Filipino/Tagalog, French, Gaeilge, German, Ghan, Italian, Latvian, Lingala, Lithuanian, Moldovan, Nigerian, Polish, Romanian (“Gypsy Romanian”), Romanian (“Moldovan Romanian”), Russian, Turkish, Urdu (Pakistani), Vietnamese, Xhosa, and Yoruba.

Friendship Fortnight Poetry Competition Winners

October 23rd, 2015 by Ms Wynne

Congratulations to the following poets on their creative and original poems.

Friendship:

Friendship is being nice,

Friendship is helping others,

Friendship is caring,

Friendship is about inviting kids to play when they are all alone,

Friendship is about helping kids when they are in a situation like bullying,

Friendship is about letting people use your stuff like colours or maybe your pencil or maybe even your rubber!

Friendship is about helping someone up if they fall down.

By Daria

Friendship Poem

Friends never let you down.

Sometimes you’ll even meet them in town.

Friends are the sun on a gloomy day.

Sometimes you just go out to play.

Friends are all unique.

But some fit together like a puzzle.

I know that I have friends,

That I can always trust.

By Nina

Friendship

Friendship is about caring and loving and being there for him or her

If you are there for them so they will be for you!

If  you are sad they will cheer you up.

Friends are helpful and trustful!

They never let you down when you’re in trouble.

They have trust in you and we have trust in them- they say nice things to you!

Always make you happy- they never say anything mean to you!

They make funny jokes to make you smile!

True friends are the best!

By Hailey

My Friend

Friends are cool,

Rondo is my friend’s name,

Irish we speak,

England he is from,

Narnia is his favourite book,

Doctor he would like to be.

By Robert

A Friend

A friend is a person that you can talk to and tell your secrets to.

I have a friend who knows what to do,

When I am feeling blu,

Her name is Lucy and she is smart and cute,

She knows how to make me laugh and smile.

And I like her just the way she is.

By Jemma Lei

My best friend is William,

My friend is silly,

My friend is cool,

How many languages do we speak here at Talbot?

September 11th, 2015 by Mr. Stuart

We speak 20 languages (wow)How many languages do we speak at Talbot? Twenty!

Yes, twenty languages! Last year we asked all the children in the school. And this year we asked all the (new) 3rd class children, and all the new children in the older classes. And the result is 20 languages are spoken at home by children at Talbot or their parents.

Last year, because of an idea from 6th class, we put up the word “Welcome” in all the different languages at the school entrance. We’re doing the same again this year. We want EVERYONE to feel welcome. We want to INCLUDE everyone.

Here are the words in the 20 languages…

Afrikaans Welkom! (Afrikaans)
Algerian Amrehba sisswène (Algerian: Berber)
Arabic Ahlan wa sahlan! (Arabic)
Bosnian Dobrodošli! (Bosnian)
Chinese Huānyíng! (Chinese)
Creole (Mauritius Creole) Bienvenu! (Creole—Mauritian)
Filipino Maligayang pagdating! (Filipino)
French Bienvenue! (French)
Irish Fáilte! (Irish)
Italian Benvenuto! (Italian)
Latvian Laipni lūdzam! (Latvian)
Lithuanian Sveiki atvykę! (Lithuanian)
Polish Witamy! (Polish)
Romani Pozdravil! (Romani, Kalderas Romani)
Romanian Bine ai venit! (Romanian)
Russian Dobro pozhalovat’! (Russian)
Spanish ¡Bienvenido! (Spanish)
Turkish Hoşgeldiniz! (Turkish)
Vietnamese Chào mừng bạn! (Vietnamese)
Yoruba Kaabo (Yoruba)

What language — or languages — would you like to learn most?
(You can write a comment and tell us all.)

Winners of Friendship Poetry Competition

October 9th, 2014 by Ms. Wynne

Well done to everybody who posted a poem for Friendship Fortnight.  Read and enjoy our six winning entries.

Friendship

Everyone needs friends,
To share, care and play,
They cheer you up, when your down,
I see mine every day.

We can go to the shop, or play games,
Or just hang around,
well do anything, play football,
Or go to the playground.

We’ll have lots of fun,
With big toy guns,
Ill play with my friends,
Until time ends

By Thomas Daly

Friendship

This is my poem.I hope you like it.

I asked my mum
“Friend? what is it?”
And she replies
“A friend could tell no lies
A friend would be friendly and kind
That is what in a friend you’ll find
They’ll help you out in a hard situation
A friend would not find irritation
So do you know what’s a friend?
I hope so,because this is the end.”

By Mateusz Sewerynski

Friendship

My name is Claudia
how do you do?
Do you want to be my friend
we could play peek a boo.

Having friends is lots of fun
there are lots of things
that could be done.

like skipping, like jumping
like playing outside
or play with our computer games if were inside.

Rain or sun it doesn’t matter
as long as were friends
I’m as mad as a hatter.

Friendship is good
friendship is kind
let’s all be friends
while we are alive!

By Claudia Tallon

Friends

Friends are good to you
Really kind and helpful too
Ideas came into my mind while we play
Even with sore hands they play catch
Never will our friendship end
Distance apart – we are still friends

By Deacon Molloy

Friendship

Friends are nice,friends are cool
Friends are always there for you
Friends are really fun and good
Friends are as good as any old pet.
Friends like to be our best friends
Friends like to laugh friends like to play
Friends like to play and share with you
Friends are so respectful and friendly.

Friends can be shy but be so kind
Friends are so respectful to us
Friends can be serious but so generous

Kizzy Salu

Friendship

Friendship is so important
Relationship that’s unbreakable
I love my friends very much
Even though we fight we will always be friends
Never leave or ignore your friends
