We are working out the area of various items in our class!
First we estimate the area – and then we work it out with rulers and a calculator!

Mr Gordon recently told us all about Operation Transformation and what we can do in school to improve our fitness, health and general well being. One idea for primary schools across the country is called ’10@10′, which encourages all primary school children to take part in 10 minutes of physical activity at 10.am each day. Here is the link to ‘classroom workout’. There will be 2 versions of this video, one in English and one as Gaeilge.

The following books were recently reviewed by our teachers. Have a read and see what might interest you.
Tsunami Surges by Cath Senker
This book answers all your questions on tsunamis and looks at three case studies of recent tsunamis. An excellent, informative and up to date read for geography enthusiasts.
Knights of the Borrowed Dark by Dave Rudden
This book is the first of a Trilogy of fantasy books written by Irish author Dave Rudden. The main character is a young old Orphan called Denizen. The story begins in the miserable orphanage (Crosscaper) where Denizen lives on Achill Island Co Mayo.Denizen survives the dreary orphanage by reading fantasy books, he never has any visitors and knows nothing about his family. All of this changes just before Denizen reaches his 13th birthday. He is summoned to meet a mysterious aunt who he has never heard of. Denizen is very sceptical but agrees to go along. On the journey to meet his Aunt, as they reach Dublin they are attacked by a terrible monster of darkness. Denizen’s driver defeats the monster using magical powers. Denizen soon finds out that his mysterious aunt is the leader of a group of Knights who secretly fight to keep these monsters at bay. As Denizen turns 13, he discovers that he too has magical powers, and faces the choice of joining the battle against these monsters, or returning to the life he had in the orphanage. I have really enjoyed this book, it moves fast, is exciting and is based in Ireland. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl or any fantasy novels.
Let’s See Ireland by Sarah Bowie
Go on holiday with Molly around Ireland, meet the animals in Dublin Zoo, skip across the Giant’s Causeway, peer over the Cliffs of Moher and much much more! (And see if you can spot who sneaked along with Molly and her family!) A nice read and fun illustrations.
Rover and the Big Fat Baby by Roddy Doyle
Join our own Dublin author Roddy Doyle for an absolutely hilarious read about Rover and his adventures around our city. Be warned, this book is not for the faint hearted, are you ready for the challenge?
Time after Time by Judi Curtin
Molly and Beth travel back in time to the 1980’s to find someone special. It is a lovely tale of friendship and adventure.
Barnyard Hullabaloo by Francesca Simon
This is a book about animals on Potter’s Barn Farm. They sing, stomp, make cakes, get lost, run off and go wild. This is a short book, but with wonderful vocabulary- screeched, snarled, yowled caterwauled and lots more interesting words.
