Work has started in our new school garden. Mr Byrne’s and Ms Ni Fhlartharta’s classes have planted potatoes. Ms Ní Dhúill’s class has planted onions. The daffodils Mr Molloy’s class planted last November are blooming. The plants in our butterfly patch planted by Mr Gilmartin’s class are beginning to add colour to the garden. We have lovely tulips and hyacinths brightening up our school environment. Enjoy our school garden over the months of May and June.

Grow Your Own!

April 20th, 2016 by Mr Byrne

Lately we have been growing and planting water cress, spinach, peas, lettuce, chives, rosemary and scallions in our class. We grew them from seed using pots and compost. We also recently planted (with Ms Considine’s assistance) early potato seeds which we hope to harvest and eat in June.

We learned that growing your own vegetables and herbs requires sunshine, good soil, space, warmth, water (rain) and plenty of time and effort!

Hopefully in a few week we will plant our class herbs and vegetables out in the school garden.

Some memories of our pupil Séan Doyle, who unfortunately passed away recently. We remember him fondly and he will be sorely missed by all at Scoil Talbot.
