Talbot’s Kids Demand Action!

October 23rd, 2015 by Mr. Stuart

Become a Leader imageI want to say well done and thanks to the:

  • 76 children from 3rd class (wow!)
  • 84 children from 4th class (my God!)
  • 81 children from 5th class, (amazing!) and
  • 74 children from 6th class (fair play to ya!)

who chose to sign a letter to all the leaders of all the political parties. You didn’t have to, each one of you chose to. By doing that, you are letting them know what you want. And you are very kind — you are not asking for something for yourselves, you are asking for something for everyone in the whole world.

I have photocopied your letter, other children put them into envelopes, and Natasha is posting them today. Very soon, the leaders of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, Green Party, Independents Group, Labour Party, Renua, Sinn Féin, Social Democrats, & United Left will receive your letter.

You wrote to the leaders to ask them to put the UN’s Global Goals for a safer, fairer, better world in their election manifesto. That means to publicly promise to work towards the 17 Goals if they are elected in the election that is going to happen soon.

Well done! You are joining 550 million other children all around the world who are learning about these goals — 550 million!! But you just didn’t learn about them — you took action!

If you haven’t already seen them, here are some good videos about the Global Goals!

  1. Don’t Quit Half-Way!
  2. What it’s all about (3 minute video for younger kids) OR What it’s all about (6 minute video — for older kids)

Friendship Fortnight Poetry Competition Winners

October 23rd, 2015 by Ms Wynne

Congratulations to the following poets on their creative and original poems.

Friendship:

Friendship is being nice,

Friendship is helping others,

Friendship is caring,

Friendship is about inviting kids to play when they are all alone,

Friendship is about helping kids when they are in a situation like bullying,

Friendship is about letting people use your stuff like colours or maybe your pencil or maybe even your rubber!

Friendship is about helping someone up if they fall down.

By Daria

Friendship Poem

Friends never let you down.

Sometimes you’ll even meet them in town.

Friends are the sun on a gloomy day.

Sometimes you just go out to play.

Friends are all unique.

But some fit together like a puzzle.

I know that I have friends,

That I can always trust.

By Nina

Friendship

Friendship is about caring and loving and being there for him or her

If you are there for them so they will be for you!

If  you are sad they will cheer you up.

Friends are helpful and trustful!

They never let you down when you’re in trouble.

They have trust in you and we have trust in them- they say nice things to you!

Always make you happy- they never say anything mean to you!

They make funny jokes to make you smile!

True friends are the best!

My Friend

Friends are cool,

Rondo is my friend’s name,

Irish we speak,

England he is from,

Narnia is his favourite book,

Doctor he would like to be.

A Friend

A friend is a person that you can talk to and tell your secrets to.

I have a friend who knows what to do,

When I am feeling blu,

Her name is Lucy and she is smart and cute,

She knows how to make me laugh and smile.

And I like her just the way she is.

By Jemma Lei

Friendship

My best friend is William,

My friend is silly,

My friend is cool,

My friend is kind,

My friend is helpful,

My friend is friendly,

My friend is always happy.

By David

Well done to all 140 entries, who had wonderful ideas about friends and friendship.

Attendance Awards 2014 / 2015

October 20th, 2015 by Mr. Carty

Congratulations to all the pupils who received Attendance Awards for last year at September’s Assembly. Eamonn Regan, Educational Welfare Officer, was present to present some of the awards. Eamonn spoke about how important it is to attend school as often as possible. School attendance has a direct effect on results in tests, and on pupils education. Keep up the good work, hopefully we will have lots more trophies and medals to give out at next year’s awards.

Parents: Please Click Here & “Stand Up for Primary Education”

October 5th, 2015 by Mr. Stuart

INTO stand-up-for-primary-education 2015 imageParents and Guardians,

with the Budget coming up and the election sometime soon, the INTO (Teachers’ Union) has asked that we ask you to contact the local TDs to ask them to place a greater priority on primary schools.

And so I am asking you to click on this link (www.standupprimary.ie).

There you can easily and quickly “Email your local TDs now.” The emails are already prepared for you; you can send them as they are, or you can change them as you see fit.

Thank you!

Martin Stuart, current INTO Staff Representative at Scoil Talbot

INTO stand-up-for-primary Bus Image 2015

Extra: The demands can be summed up as follows:

  1. reduce class sizes to the E.U. average (the INTO researched this and found “Irish class sizes are the highest in the Eurozone”);
  2. fund primary schools the same as secondary schools (currently secondary schools receive almost exactly twice as much funding per pupil as primary schools)
  3. build a better management structure for primary schools (because of a ban on promotion many programs around the country can’t be delivered for children with special needs, for literacy, for ICT, and more).
