Great Memories of A Great Class… Mr Stuart’s 6th, 2013-2014

June 27th, 2014 by Mr. Stuart and tagged

class of 2014Hi everyone who was! in my class this year!

Well done to you all with the classy way you finished the year, graduating with style.

Here are some of the photos from our PowerPoint Presentation this morning. If you’re going to watch them again, why not with some music again. Maybe 1. When I Am Gone (The Cup song) 2. Can’t Hold Us (macklemore) 3. The Climb (Miley Cyrus) 4. Time of Your Life (Green Day) 5. The Graduation Song (vitamin C)

To save a photo to your computer, don’t watch it with PicLens–just click on the photo by itself below. Then, when it opens, just right-click on it and click “Save As” and then you can save it to your computer–forever!! 🙂

Like I told you this morning, Orla and I will miss you lots. We wish you nothing but the very best. My messages to you all are on the Class Poem I wrote that’s in your graduation pack (and I’ll put it on my blog too–www.talbotmrstuart.blogspot.ie). You’re all wonderful. Take it easy, just do it, God bless you,

Mr Stuart

What Mr Ryan Wants You To Do… To Be Happy! :)

June 19th, 2014 by Mr. Stuart and tagged ,

Always SmilingAt today’s very special Assembly for Mr Ryan, he asked all children at Talbot to do three things. He promises if you do them, you will be successful AND you will be happy…

1) Work Hard!

2) Play Hard!

3) Pray Hard!

1) Work Hard! Mr Ryan really hopes we will all work hard. Mr Ryan told us all how when he grew up Ireland was very poor and his family were poor. They didn’t have a lot of money. But his parents did give him lots of ambition (the desire to do really well in life). It’s very important to have a plan, he said. He said he decided when he was in primary school to become a teacher. And to work hard not just at school but in your job and in your community. He said it doesn’t matter what your job is, the point is to work hard. And to keep working hard! He said he had a couple of years where he thought of giving up teaching, but he kept going and he’s glad he did!

2) Play Hard! Have fun playing! But, he begged everyone, don’t think drink or drugs is the answer. They make a bad situation worse. They create even more problems. He’s been to some very sad funerals where past pupils have died because they drank too much or took drugs. Take up a sport, Mr Ryan told us. Sport is the thing that keeps people away from drugs, away from alcohol, and keeps people safe. If you have a problem, don’t turn to drink or drugs: you need to talk to someone about your problem.

3) Pray Hard! It’s important that you have a relationship with God. Know that you have a friend in God. Make friends with the Holy Spirit.

If you do those three things well in your life, you will be happy.

Next time you see Mr Ryan, why not stop and tell him how much we will all miss him here at Talbot. Imagine working here for 35 years! Wow! I’m sure HE will be happy if you do these three things so that YOU are happy!

New School Record… Lots of New Records!!

June 6th, 2014 by Mr. Stuart and tagged , , ,

Its never too early to begin typing

Wow!

The fastest typing speed of any child at Talbot ever is 39 words-per-minute…. NOT any more!!

Two children have smashed the record in this year’s ten-finger typing competition.

Leah Sanusi in 6th class, take a bow! You set a new official record of 59 words-per-minute. 59! And in practice Leah got up to 72 words-per-minute (72!!).

And Andrew in Ms Shaw’s 3rd class, take a bow too! You also broke the school record, typing at an amazing speed for your age of 47 words-per-minute… 47!

Imagine being able to write at even 15 words per minute–they can type 3, even 4 times as fast! What an advantage for them. If YOU practice a little a lot, then you too can get that fast: easily!!

Here are the full results:

3rd Class Winner and Second Place:

  1. Andrew in Ms Shaw’s (47)
  2. Amber in Ms Gallagher’s (25)

4th Class Winner and Second Place

  1. Esther in Mr Gordon’s (26)
  2. Roisin in Mr O’Donnell’s (24)

5th Class Winner and Second Place

  1. Chelsea in Ms Ní Fhlatharta’s (22 net speed)
  2. Robbie in Ms Ní Fhlatharta’s (19 net speed)
NOTE: Davina (42, gross speed, not net) and Vanessa (28 gross speed, not net) in Mr Coleman’s took part a day or two later but also did superb so they too deserve to be up on this list–well done, them!

6th Class Winner and Second Place

  1. Leah Sanusi in Mr Stuart’s (59)
  2. Reece Bolger in Mr Stuart’s (42)

new recordSmall prizes will be given to the first place children to share with their class if they want.

Well done to everyone in every class who has practiced their skills. And thank you to the teachers who gave you time to improve.

Why improve your typing using ten-finger typing? (1) The faster you type, the sooner you get work finished!! (2) The faster you type, the more you can say to your friends. (3) The faster you type, the less you’re thinking about typing and the more you’re thinking about what you’re typing! (4) It’s cool and fun to get better and better and beat your own record.

The three best free sites are

  1. play.typeracer.com (great fun)
  2. typingweb.com (this shows you which fingers to use for which letters–brilliant)
  3. ratatype.com including ratatype.com/typing-test/test and good, simply written instructions to learn at www.ratatype.com/learn

REMEMBER, if you’re going to learn something, learn it right. ANYONE can type at 10-15 words-per-minute by looking at the letters. BUT ONLY THOSE WHO LEARN TEN-FINGER TYPING will ever get really fast, like Leah and Andrew. Use the 10 fingers if you want to get fast!

Our First Chick has hatched…..

June 5th, 2014 by Mr. Carty

Congratulations to Ms. Madden and Jason on the arrival of the first chick! Both are so proud of their newborn and have named it Jayola! Lots of the eggs are close to hatching, and we are looking forward to the pitter patter of chicks feet around the school!!! Your teachers will be able to show you the live link of the eggs hatching in your classroom. Be sure to be nice and quiet on the corridor as we don’t want to frighten our new arrivals!!! Photo 05-06-2014 09 18 48 Photo 05-06-2014 09 18 46
