This story is based on ideas from “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory”. In that book anyone who finds a golden ticket in a Wonka chocolate bar can visit the fabulous and mysterious Wonka factory. Charlie is a good boy who gets a ticket. So do four others. On the crazy tour by the mad and seemingly mean Mr Wonka, each child is tempted to do something bad. In the end, only Charlie proves himself to be generous and loving. Only Charlie is invited to take over the factory!
Now, here’s my story…
Seán and the Soccer Factory
Anyone who scores a goal in the summer school league can visit the secret soccer factory in Poland, where they train the world’s top soccer players for free.
In the last minute of the last league game, Seán scores a goal. He gets to go. But when he arrives, with 99 other children, a mean and mad Mr Zelfish Zowhat tells them they have to learn how to cheat, how to lie to the referees, and how to hurt and injure other players.
The 99 other children agree to do it. They are taken away to the plush, fancy hotel where they are told they will be treated like rock stars. Seán, however, thinks this is bad. He politely tells Mr Zowhat he won’t do it. Mr Zowhat shouts at him that Seán is stupid and that he’s missing the chance of a lifetime. Zowhat says Seán will miss out on becoming a professional soccer player, becoming famous, and earning millions! Seán thinks about it.
He almost says “okay” but then he remembers what his mother told him all his life: “Treat other people like you would want to be treated.”
Hearing his mother’s soft, beautiful voice in his head, Seán says, “No, sorry, but no. I’m going home instead of learning how to be mean and nasty.”
Then Mr Zowhat takes off his mask. It is really Giovanni Trappatoni, manager of Ireland, who says, “Seán, I’m looking for new players. I want only good people, honest people, people I can trust, people who will do the right things. Will you play for Ireland?”
Seán thinks about it. He shouts, “yes!” Four years later, Seán scores the winning goal for Ireland in the 2016 European Championships.

You all know how to write great stories. And no doubt you’ll write great ones this summer in “Talbot’s Got Writers!” Here’s just a reminder of one way of doing it…
Remember, to be a good story it doesn’t have to be a ‘happy ever after’ ending. Sometimes sad or horrible endings are fun to read!!

SHORT VERSION!…
Steps To Enter:
1. Read a great book
2. Retell it in just a few lines
3. Change the story and write it your own way—make it different, make it one that others will really like to read
4. Email it to Mr Stuart (or just bring it in on Thursday, 30th August)
5. You can enter as many times as you want!
6. Win a prize! 🙂 Maybe win extra prizes! 🙂
LONG VERSION!:
This summer, for the first time ever, we are going to give you a chance to write a fun story and have a chance to win many prizes.
It’s easy. All you do is read a book you like, re-tell its story in just a few lines, and then re-write the story—your way! This means you can change the story any way you want. Change any part of the story—maybe put in new characters (good ones, evil ones,…), new events (new things that happen in the story), new locations (Dublin, Africa, Poland, America,…), and maybe take out some characters, events, locations… You are free to write the story YOUR way.
When you are done, you can email the story to Mr Stuart at talbotmrstuart@gmail.com or, if you don’t have a computer, just give it to Mr Stuart when you return on Thursday, 30th August. Mr Stuart will put up many of the stories on the school website during the summer. (If you are emailing it, make sure you write your name and what class you are going into.)
Everyone who enters will get a prize. AND the people whose stories are voted the best by other children and by other teachers will get extra prizes–the more children who enter, the bigger the prizes.

Wow! New School Record! Congratulations to all the top typists from each class who fought for the title of Top Typist in the computer room today.
The winner had an amazing net speed of 36 words-per-minute!! A new school record! Beating last year’s record of 31wpm (Kayleigh Perkins).
Who was it? Teigan Walsh in 6th class. Second place went to Joe Okewumi (6th class) with 28wpm, 3rd place to Kyle Shorten (3rd class!) with 22wpm.
Who will win next year? It could be you. Especially if you spend a little time each day practising on www.typingweb.com But you will have to beat Megan McGrath in 5th class (28wpm) and Leah Sanusi in 4th class (17wpm).
Here’s how… just place your left-hand fingers on the letters asdf and your right-hand fingers on the letters jkl; and off you go. Use typingweb.com to help you. It’s amazing.
Good luck! And major congratulations to Teigan and her whole class.

On Wednesday the Green Team and the Student Council went on a trip into town. We left the school at 11.15 and went to the Natural History Museum first. It was amazing – Anna liked the butterflies best and Reece was very interested in a monkey from Peru as they’re studying Peru in his class.
When we finished there Ms Walsh got a guard to stop the traffic! and we went across the road to Merrion Square Park where we had a picnic and played in the playground. We were very lucky that it stayed dry.
After that we walked to Leinster House where we met with our local TD Derek Keating and got a tour of the Dail. It was very interesting and we saw lots of famous people.
Thanks to the Student Council and the Green Team who worked very hard all year and a special thanks to Josie who came with us to help on the day.
